The difficulty is that the subconscious does not always update its records. An experience from years ago can leave an imprint it still acts upon today. It does not know the threat has passed. It only knows something once felt unsafe, and so it keeps the alarm running, just in case.

This is how anxiety, avoidance, and unwanted behaviours often take root. Not because something is wrong with you, but because your subconscious learned a pattern and has been loyally repeating it ever since.
