If you have ever felt a wave of fear hit you when you know, logically, that you are perfectly safe, you will understand how confusing that experience is.
You can reason with yourself all you like. You can remind yourself that the motorway is statistically safer, that the spider is far more frightened of you, that the lift has never once dropped. And still, the fear comes.
You are not irrational. You are not weak. And you are not stuck this way.
Why phobias form
We are born with just two instinctive fears: loud noises and the sensation of falling. Everything else is learned. At some point, your subconscious decided that something was a threat. It created a rule. And it has been following that rule ever since, quietly and consistently, to keep you safe.
The problem is that the rule is no longer serving you. But the subconscious does not update its rules automatically. It keeps running the same programme until something changes it.
And every time you avoid the trigger, the subconscious files that avoidance as confirmation. The rule strengthens. The world gets a little smaller.
Why willpower does not work
Phobias live in the subconscious, not the conscious mind. No amount of reasoning, willpower, or positive thinking reaches them at the level where change actually happens. That is why telling yourself to calm down does not work. And it is why phobias tend to grow rather than fade over time.
How hypnotherapy and NLP work differently
Rather than asking you to push through the discomfort, hypnotherapy and NLP work with the subconscious to update the rule that is creating the fear in the first place.
In our sessions, I guide you into a deeply relaxed state: not sleep, more like that calm, absorbed feeling just before you drift off. In that state, I use a combination of hypnosis and NLP techniques to shift the structure of the phobia. Not the content of it, but the way your mind has stored and interpreted it.
There is no need to describe everything in detail or sit with the full force of the fear. Just calm, professional work at the level where lasting change actually happens.
“One client came to me with a long-standing fear of driving on motorways. Within two sessions, he was driving freely again. He told me he could barely remember what the fear had felt like.”
You do not have to keep navigating around it
A free discovery call is the simplest first step. A private, unhurried conversation where we can talk about what you are experiencing and what working together would involve. No pressure. No obligation. No need to share more than you are comfortable with.
You simply need to be willing. The rest, your subconscious can handle.
